Update – Homicide Arrest: C22-264160

As previously released, on November 12, 2022, at approximately 5:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 400 block of William Avenue for the report of an injured female.

Central District General Patrol officers attended and located a 23-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers provided emergency medical care to the victim using CPR before ambulance arrived. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition; however, she succumbed to her injuries.

The Homicide Unit assumed the investigation, and Investigators identified the victim as 23-year-old Delany Nora DESMARAIS of Winnipeg.

A suspect was identified, and a Warrant of Arrest (Manslaughter) was issued in March 2024 for 49-year-old Clinton Desmond BIGNELL.   

On May 1, 2024, officers observed BIGNELL in the area of Furby Street and Cumberland Avenue, where he was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant.

BIGNELL is charged with the following:

  • Manslaughter
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Pointing a Firearm 

He has been detained in custody.
